The planning area is located in the Borbeck-Mitte district on Fürstäbtissinstraße in the section from Heinrich-Brauns-Straße to Borbecker Straße. Fürstäbtissinstraße is a main municipal road, is located in the center of Borbeck at the Borbeck S-Bahn station and connects Schloßstraße in the west with Borbecker Straße in the east. The core tasks of the present planning are the increased frequency derived from the local transport plan and the barrier-free conversion of the bus stop platforms as well as the modal split target of 4 x 25 % formulated in transport policy. In 2018, the Federal Ministry for the Environment selected the city of Essen as one of five model cities as part of the "Clean Air Immediate Action Program" to strengthen public transport and cycling.
